Commonly acupuncturists attend from 2 to 4 clients at any given time, some see 25 clients or more a day. Kathleen’s practice is unique in that she treats one client at a time. For the two hour initial appointment and hour follow appointment, Kathleen focuses her attention and energy on the single client continually monitoring and adjusting the treatment to maximize the benefit for the client.

It is rare today to be completely attended to by a health care practioner. This is what Kathleen does.

Transitions for Women and Men

Kathleen enjoys working with individuals seeking guidance and support as well as treatment in their return to and the maintenance of optimal health.

Kathleen specializes working with individuals in transition: women adjusting to motherhood and menopause as well as individuals adjusting to relationship changes (marriage, grieving the loss of a loved one, break-ups), occupation changes, sports injuries, acute and chronic pain and major health developments (cancer).

While Kathleen enjoys and treats clients with what is regarded as purely physical aliments she attends to the more esoteric aspect of discomfort. Every disease or discomfort has four aspects—physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual. For example, a client with chronic back pain has first the physical pain “Oh, my aching back.” Second, they have emotional response to the chronic pain “I am so irritable, this nagging pain is really keeping me from enjoying my kids.” Third, there are mental ramifications “this continuous pain is keeping me from concentrating on my work and the quality of my writing is suffering.” Fourth, pain can affect the bigger picture—the connection to life “I cannot stand this pain anymore, my life is hardly worth living.  I am a shadow of who I once was and cannot do the activities I really enjoy doing.” Kathleen addresses each of these aspects of the client's discomfort.  By doing this, the client has the chance of experiencing relief on all layers of suffering.

Children

Kathleen uses the Japanese Shoni-Shin technique for children rather than needles. This is a fun and effective technique! Small children enjoy being treated with the “silver surfboard” and the “pokey roller” as well as one of the shells from Kathleen’s seashell collection. She also shares home remedies with parents so treatments can be done at home.

Insurance Coverage

Kathleen will assist you determining insurance reimbursement. Not all insurance carriers cover or partially cover acupuncture.

Kathleen has worked with Blue Cross and ACN insurance agencies.

A tip for Medicare patients: Medicare does not cover acupuncture services. If you would like your secondary insurance to reimburse you for acupuncture services, your acupuncturist should send a bill for services rendered to Medicare. After the bill is submitted, the acupuncturist should call Medicare and request a "manual denial." This "manual denial" can then be submitted with a copy of the bill for the services rendered to the secondary insurance. The secondary insurance will not reimburse a Medicare patient without the "manual denial" from Medicare.
